How to make a save the date video

This save the date video starts with SAVE THE DATE written by hand in the sand of a sunset beach. A wave rolls in, washes the letters away, and as the water drains your names and wedding date are left in the sand. Make it free in your browser for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and WhatsApp Status, or to send to family and friends.

  1. 1

    Type your names and date

Keep or change the first text, then write the bride and groom's names and the wedding date under After the wave. Two short lines look best.

  2. 2

Style the writing in the sand

Pick a handwritten font, and set the size, line gap, letter spacing, tilt and position of each text. Sand writing sets finger width, groove depth, sand clumps and hand wobble.

  3. 3

    Export and share

Choose 720p or 1080p and tap Export video. It records in about 8 seconds and saves an MP4, ready for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and WhatsApp Status.

Frequently asked questions

Is this save the date video maker free?

Yes. It is 100% free, with no sign-up and no watermark on your video.

Can I change the words written in the sand?

Yes. Both texts are yours to edit: what is written before the wave (SAVE THE DATE by default) and what the wave leaves behind, such as the bride and groom's names and the wedding date. Each has its own font, size, line gap, letter spacing, position and tilt.

Which handwriting fonts can I use?

There are 16 English fonts: 12 handwritten styles such as Kalam, Patrick Hand, Caveat and Gloria Hallelujah that look traced with a finger, and 4 script fonts such as Dancing Script and Great Vibes for an elegant look.

Should I export in 720p or 1080p?

720p works smoothly on every phone. 1080p gives sharper letters in the sand and is best on a computer. Both keep the original wave sound.

Why didn't my video download inside Instagram or Facebook?

Their built-in browsers can't save videos to your phone. Open this page in Chrome on Android or Safari on iPhone, then export again.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. It works in Chrome on Android, Safari on iPhone and any modern desktop browser, with nothing to install.
